CELEBRATING NATIONAL NUTRITION DAY, TEMPO SCAN GROUP PRESENTS A PROGRAM OF “REALIZING A WELL-NOURISHED AND HEALTHY GENERATION OF INDONESIA”
01/03/2019Klaten, 1 March 2019 – Children as the future of our country are valuable assets that must be protected. Therefore, the safety and nutrient content of food consumed by them have to be cared for as they contribute a lot to the process of growth which will affect the quality of the human resources of a country.
This statement was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Menko PMK) Ibu Puan Maharani during the celebration of National Nutrition Day 2019 in Klaten, Central Java.
The celebration of National Nutrition Day 2019 was held together with the program of “Realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia” initiated by Tempo Scan Group and three institutions, which are the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Kemenko PMK), the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Badan POM), and Klaten Regency Government. The celebration, picking up a theme “Safe and Nutritious Food to Protect the Nation’s Assets”, was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Ibu Puan Maharani, and the Head of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control, Ir. Penny K. Lukito. “By ensuring the safety and nutrition content of food for children, we have contributed in preparing a better future of our nation,” said Ibu Puan.
The President Director of Tempo Scan Group, Bapak Handojo S. Muljadi, stated that this program has been launched as a real act of the company’s social responsibility to take part in realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia for a robust future of the country. The “Realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia” program is aimed for children above 2 years old with a malnourished condition and belonged to low economic or poor families. “Health aid shall be provided sustainably for a period of 3 months. Furthermore, the parents will also receive education on how to live hygienically and healthily, and how to prevent diseases including dengue fever,” explained Bapak Handojo.
The implementation of “Realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia” program in 2019 will, in total, cover several regions in Klaten Regency, Central Java, with an estimated total of aid recipients of approximately 5,000 children above 2 years old. By the end of last year, the “Realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia” program has covered 5 regencies in West Java and Banten, including 172 Posyandu (maternal and child health service post) in 8 sub-districts, and managed to help 8,781 children above 2 years old.
Bapak Handojo added that an active and sustainable participation of all parties is crucial to ensure the realization of a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia. “Therefore, this CSR Program implementation will include several related institutions such as Posyandu, which is the closest basic health service post to the people,” he said.
Ibu Puan continued, “We welcome the CSR Program of Tempo Scan Group, “Realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia”, since nutrition is basic for the foundation of our nation’s development. The effort to improve the quality of human resources with superior characters starts from the very basic, which is adequate nutrition for children from an early age,” she affirmed.
The number of Indonesian population is known to have increased rapidly. The projection of Indonesian Population 2010-2035, made by the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) together with the Statistics Indonesia (BPS), shows that the number will keep increasing for the next 25 years, from 238.5 million in 2010 to 305.6 million in 2035. “This number will be a great asset for Indonesia if it is of quality human resources, and will bring great opportunities for the Indonesian economy and will take Indonesia a step closer to become a developed country,” added Ibu Puan.
According to Riskesdas (Basic Health Research) 2018, there had been an improvement in the nutrition status of toddlers in Indonesia, where the proportion of poor nutrition went down from 19.6% (Riskesdas 2013) to 17.7%. This fact was confirmed by BPS Data of 2018, which showed that the poverty rate in Indonesia decreased in number and percentage, and managed to drop to the lowest point in 2018. In this respect, Tempo Scan Group, through “Realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia” program, would like to assist a rapid improvement of nutrition status of Indonesian children.
Data from BPS 2018 mentioned that the province of Central Java contributed to the decrease of poor nutrition and poverty rate in Indonesia, where the poverty rate in Central Java dropped from 12.23% to 11.32%. This proves that the program run by the local government managed to effectively reduce the number of poor nutrition and poverty rate.
Moreover, Bapak Handojo stated that the province of Central Java had diverse potentials which certainly affect the national economic growth, from sectors of agriculture, trade, and industry. In addition, this province has a very strategic location and lies near to the central government. “We hope that the CSR Program of Tempo Scan Group, “Realizing a Well-Nourished and Healthy Generation of Indonesia”, can have a great synergy with the government’s effort in improving the status of children’s nutrition,” he said.
Ibu Puan also affirmed that the success of national development lies heavily on the quality of the country’s future generation as its asset. “Let’s build together the awareness of safe and nutritious food for children as an important foundation for the development of Indonesia in the future, in order to realize a well-nourished and healthy generation of Indonesia that will take us a step closer to a more prosperous Indonesia,” she concluded.
